Curlews in the Estuary - but for how long? (inscribed) No 1 - by Hilary Kington
image 25 x 25 cm, border 6.5 cm
Before the ink dried I scribed the curlew's plight into the curves of the mud and onto the curlew's back. Curlews have a hauntingly melancholic call but it is a joy to see and hear them in the estuary. This is something that future generations deserve to experience too, so it is up to us to make sure they can.

"Fragile" by Janno
A painting of the Eastern Curlew, mixed media on canvas and approx 61 cm x 47cm
I wanted to reflect the isolation that everyone is feeling now and channel it through the vulnerability and near isolation of the Curlew. The word 'fragile' is also there in the sand.
The 'e' in fragile is upside down and back to front to reflect the topsy turvy world that we live in at present.
The painting is a humble gesture and imperfect and I based the bird on one of David Hollands Curlew photographs from his wader book to make it more personal and thread another connection...

mixed media sculpture - about life-size approx. 45cm long
I create animal sculpture and assemblages referencing shamanism and history. My mixed media landscape painting depicts mysterious forest; the animal's habitat and a threatened ecosystem. "The Curlew Call" by Carne Griffiths
Ink and tea with graphite and pigment pen on bockingford watercolour paper 535gsm with hand torn edges unframed at 50 x 70cm
Working primarily with calligraphy inks, graphite and liquids, such as tea, Griffiths' fascination with drawing focuses on the creation and manipulation of the drawn line. Images are recorded in a dreamlike sense onto the page where physical boundaries are unimportant. His work creates a journey of escapism which focuses on scenes of awe and wonder, projecting a sense of abandonment and inviting the viewer to share and explore this inner realm.
